Denial-of-service attack

A denial-of-service attack (DoS) is an attempt to make a computer resource, such as a web or email server, unavailable by repeatedly sending requests in quick succession to the resource. There are a variety of ways that DoS attacks occur. Many high-profile company websites, such as Amazon.com, eBay, Dell Computer, and Yahoo, have been brought down by DoS attacks.
