Digital certificates

A digital certificate is an attachment to an electronic message used to verify that a user sending a message is who they claim to be, while providing the receiver a means to encode a reply. A digital certificate is obtained from a Certificate Authority (CA). A CA is a trusted third-party organization that issues digital certificates and guarantees that the individual granted the certificate is who they claims to be.
